Vacuum Gauges are measurement devices used to determine the pressure present in a vacuum system, there are many designs currently available as well as those that have fallen out of use. The 4 basic electric gauges are, the Pirani Gauge, Penning Gauge, Bayard Alpert Gauge and the Baratron (Capacitive Gauge). Each gauge type has a range in which it is capable of measuring pressure, while not simultaneously destroying the gauge. Most gauges available today, are not absolute gauges, but are relative to a absolute gauge to which they where calibrated.
